I hope everyone's summer has been absolutely wonderful!
We have been hard at work trying to get more Language Arts products ready in time for the new school year.
Level C is proving to take longer than expected once again -- but it WILL get done, God-willing. We're just not positive when.
In the meantime, I have been working very hard to come up with something for the Grades 5-8 levels.
I wanted something they (my children who fall into that age group) could use together, and that would not require new books each year. Once again, the ideas started flowing mercilessly, (as they tend to do when I begin to work on each level) and I believe I have come up with a terrific arrangement.
The newest publication: Lighted Lanterns Copywork and Dictation is a resource that can be used with multiple students at the same time, while still being able to tailor according to each student's capabilities.
Copywork and Dictation consists of 4 sections called A, B, C, and D.
Each section is further divided into 4 quarters, each quarter into 9 weeks, and each week has 5 selection possibilities. (With the exception of poems, which may have more or less.)
Of course, my aim was to have many edifying selections, so while there are numerous descriptive selections, there are also many that promote a strong spiritual life and encourage virtue, all the while fostering good sentence structure, spelling and mechanics, increased vocabulary, etc.
This book is meant to be used in conjunction with Learning Grammar Through Writing - also available through us, and Writing Purposes - a Student's Guide to Practical Writing. This latter book is going to be a great resource, in my opinion. Written directly to the student, they will learn to write sentences, paragraphs, essays, reports, stories, news reports, summaries and reviews, poems, and more! Some other features will be: a reproducible lesson plan page, polishing checklist, writing rubric, critical thinking questions, and more! We are hoping that Writing Purposes will be available soon, my hope is before Christmas, but I cannot promise with certainty. These 3 books, when used together, will be a wonderful Language Arts course. Simply add books to read (and there will be assignment suggestions for books in Writing Purposes, too,) as well as a more formal grammar course during one of those years, and you will be set!
One other thing I'd like to mention, is that I hope to have 4 sets of lesson plans available as well, hopefully ready next summer.
